india(N) woman
ABOUT
india(N) woman is a solo play, movement piece, and inquiry around conceptions of female power, Indian identity in a globalized world, and complicated notions of indigeneity and Indian-ness.
SYNOPSIS
Hannah Gadsby's Nanette recently reminded the world that, "There is nothing more powerful than a broken woman who has put herself back together." This is the center of india(N) woman.
At the end of the Ramayana, after having submitted to trial by fire twice and still being banished by her husband Ram, the earth cracks open and Sita, archetype of Indian femininty, steps into the welcoming embrace of her mother.
What does it take for an Indian woman to claim and stand in her power? And could Akhilandeshvari, the "never-not-broken" goddess, have something to teach us?
